Organ Donation and Transplantation in Canada: Systems Progress Report, 2006 – 2015

Canada has seen incremental progress in its organ donation and transplant system since 2006. Our deceased donation rate has increased from 14.1 donors per million population (DPMP) to 18.2 DPMP in 10 years. While this is encouraging, organ donation and transplantation in our country is simply not improving fast enough to help the thousands of Canadians waiting for lifesaving or life-improving transplants.

This systems progress report, produced by Canadian Blood Services (2015), with financial contribution from health Canada and the provincial and territorial governments, represents an overview of Canada’s system.
